Am I an Emotional Eater?

Most of us know intuitively if we are an emotional eater.  You could also take the quiz below; if you answer yes to 4 or more of these questions, you most likely are an emotional eater and could benefit tremendously from wellness coaching in this area.

Note:  If you have an active eating disorder such as bulimia or anorexia nervosa, I would recommend seeking therapy/mental health treatment.

Emotional Eating Quiz:

  • When I am stressed out, I tend to overeat or eat mindlessly

  • When I am grieving, feeling sad, overwhelmed, or generally feeling triggered, I tend to reach for food to soothe myself

  • When I need a break, or a reward, I reach for food

  • I've been on virtually every diet that exists and still feel like I'm struggling to know "what to eat"

  • I tend to vacillate between restricting food and bingeing

  • I seek solace in food

  • I sometimes feel out of control of my eating habits

  • I have a hard time eating mindfully and often realize I've accidentally eaten way more than I intended to

  • I regularly ignore my body's signs of hunger and fullness (or can't really tune in to my body's hunger and fullness signals)

  • I feel guilt or shame around my eating

  • I sometimes eat in private and am not really comfortable eating in front of others

  • I often have cravings for specific foods, such as those high in sugar, fats, or salts
     

A "YES" answer to 4 or more questions can indicate emotional eating, and that coaching could be tremendously helpful
